Desde que realizó su tesis doctoral en 1979 ha trabajado como docente en diversas y prestigiosas universidades de todo el mundo y ha alternado su actividad académica con el periodismo deportivo. Recibió el Premio Konex de Platino a la divulgación científica en 2007 y el Martín Fierro en varias ocasiones, por sus trabajos en periodismo deportivo, política y ciencia. Ha trabajado en los diarios Clarín, La Nación y Página/12. Es autor de la exitosa serie Matemática, ¿estás ahí?, que desde el año 2005 ha vendido más de un millón de ejemplares en Argentina. Con Debate ha publicado ¿Pero esto también es matemática? (2012), Matemagia (2015), Matemática para todos (2017), La puerta equivocada (Debate, 2018) y ¡Un matemático ahí, por favor! (Debate, 2020). En el año 2014 ganó el Premio Leelavati al mejor divulgador de matemáticas del mundo.
