Writer Ryan North went the self-publishing route to launch his comics career with Dinosaur Comics, which has run for more than 2,000 web-based strips. He describes it as basically the best job ever. In 2012, he was tapped by BOOM! Studios to write its new Adventure Time series based on the popular cartoon. His Marvel debut came in 2014 when he penned the Young Avengers chapters of Original Sins. North propelled an unlikely character to solo title success with the Eisner Award-winning series The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and took Lockjaw solo in the pages of Inhumans: Once and Future Kings. He rewrote the Shakespeare rulebook with Romeo and/or Juliet: A Chooseable-Path Adventure.Chip Zdarsky became well-known as the artist of the award-winning Sex Criminals and the writer of Kaptara, both from Image Comics. Howard the Duck was his first Marvel series, soon followed by books including Marvel 2-in-One and Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man. Now one of the leading writers in comics, Zdarsky has wowed readers with his Daredevil run; limited series such as X-Men/Fantastic Four, Spider-Man: Life Story and Spider-Man: Spider’s Shadow; and creative covers including his “How to Draw” variants.Canadian writer Jed MacKay has built an extensive list of credits at Marvel — including such titles as Edge of Spider-Geddon, Infinity Wars: Ghost Panther, Daughters of the Dragon and Man Without Fear. His career caught fire in 2019 with Black Cat, a character-defining phenomenon. MacKay has built on that success with his highly entertaining take on Taskmaster; a high-profile relaunch of Moon Knight; and Death of Doctor Strange, which led Clea to become the new Sorcerer Supreme in Strange. With his profile continuing to rise, MacKay took on two of Marvel’s biggest titles, Avengers and X-Men, while helming his first big crossover event in Blood Hunt.Frank Tieri entered the early part of the new century as writer on diverse titles such as Wolverine, Iron Man and Weapon X. His Hercules limited series cast the Avenger as a reality-TV star reliving his twelve trials, continuing the lighthearted legacy of Olympus’ favorite son. Tieri’s Underworld and Civil War: War Crimes explored the effects of the heroes’ registration fight on Marvel’s criminal element. World War Hulk: Gamma Corps followed the next generation of gamma-irradiated superhumans as they sought to kill the Hulk. And Dark Reign: Lethal Legion charted the crash-and-burn exploits of an ad hoc team of bad guys as they vainly sought to topple Norman Osborn from power. Tieri, whose Marvel credits also includes New Excalibur, explored Weirdworld in the pages of Black Knight.Acclaimed author and screenwriter Benjamin Percy broke into comics in 2014 with a two-issue Batman story arc in Detective Comics. He is also known for his work on Nightwing, Green Arrow and Teen Titans for DC Comics, and James Bond: Black Box for Dynamite Entertainment. Percy wrote two seasons of Marvel’s Wolverine podcast series: Wolverine: The Long Night, which was listed as one of the top fifteen podcasts of the year by Apple and won the iHeart Radio Award for best scripted podcast in 2018, and Wolverine: The Lost Trail. In print, he was a key contributor to the X-Men’s Krakoan Era as writer of X-Force and Wolverine. Percy blazed a new trail for the Spirit of Vengeance with his deliciously dark revival of Ghost Rider and pitted some of Marvel’s greatest heroes against the iconic movie hunters, the Predators. After the mash-up concept Hellverine proved a smash hit in Percy’s Wolverine/Ghost Rider: Weapons of Vengeance crossover, the writer launched a Hellverine limited series followed by an ongoing series — with Wolverine’s son, Akihiro, assuming the mantle. And Percy was the ideal choice to unite the ultimate odd couple in the pages of Deadpool/Wolverine.Rainbow Rowell writes books about adults (Attachments, Landline), about teenagers (Eleanor & Park, Fangirl) and, whenever possible, about lovesick vampires and guys with dragon wings. (The Simon Snow Trilogy). She has ventured into the comic-book field, with her first graphic novel, Pumpkinheads, and a hugely enjoyable reinvigoration of Marvel’s teen heroes, Runaways. Rowell lives in Omaha, Nebraska.R.B. Silva is a Brazilian artist who built his reputation at DC Comics on titles including Superboy, Red Hood and the Outlaws, World’s Finest and Action Comics. For Marvel, he has worked on War Machine, Spider-Man and the X-Men, Nova and the James Patterson adaptation Max Ride: Ultimate Flight. Silva’s Powers of X collaboration with writer Jonathan Hickman established him as a comics superstar, a status confirmed by his subsequent work on Fantastic Four and Captain America: Symbol of Truth.Italian artist Valerio Schiti’s first work for Marvel Comics was “Sacrifice,” a short story appearing in 2011’s Ghost Rider #1. He has since illustrated Journey into Mystery, featuring the Asgardian warrior goddess Sif, with writer Kathryn Immonen and New Avengers with Jonathan Hickman. Schiti subsequently went cosmic with Brian Michael Bendis on Guardians of the Galaxy, upgraded the Armored Avenger with Dan Slott in Tony Stark: Iron Man, drew the blockbuster event Empyre and joined Al Ewing to send Marvel’s mutants into space in S.W.O.R.D.Artist Andrea Broccardo quickly found his feet at Marvel on projects including Kanan and the “Amazing Grace” storyline of Amazing Spider-Man. His work hit the big leagues in the high-profile event tie-in book Civil War II: X-Men, and he has illustrated multiple Star Wars projects, including Star Wars: Doctor Aphra. He has also worked on Marvel’s foray into another iconic sci-fi galaxy in the pages of Alien.Cory Smith is forging a reputation as a Marvel mainstay on high-profile books such as Avengers, Conan the Barbarian and Guardians of the Galaxy. After stints on titles Weapon H and Nova, as well as one-shots featuring the heroes of the Star Wars “Age of Republic,” Smith joined writer Benjamin Percy on a deliciously dark relaunch of Ghost Rider and then Ryan North on Fantastic Four.Artist Humberto Ramos made his American comics debut in 1994 with DC’s Impulse, featuring the Flash’s brash grandson. In 1998, Ramos launched the creator-owned Crimson under Wildstorm’s Cliffhanger imprint, illustrating the title for more than two years. He then moved to Marvel, becoming one of the most recognizable and innovative talents in comics. Seamlessly blending both Eastern and Western styles, the artist’s artist has worked on many of Marvel’s most iconic characters — including Spider-Man, Wolverine and the X-Men — in addition to a run on the fan-favorite Runaways. Ramos brought his kinetic artwork to the pages of Extraordinary X-Men and Champions, as well as a magical collaboration with Skottie Young on Strange Academy.Michael Dowling proved his skills on the UK comic book institutions 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine, and is now winning fans across the Atlantic at Marvel. In addition to Black Cat, he has illustrated Amazing Spider-Man and the limited series Jane Foster and the Mighty Thor.Multitalented Geoff Shaw is a professional sequential artist, sculptor, concept designer and illustrator. He has enjoyed a fruitful professional relationship with writer Donny Cates on God Country for Image Comics and Thanos for Marvel. They renewed their collaboration on Guardians of the Galaxy and Image’s Crossover. Prior to joining Marvel, he worked extensively on Avatar Press’ Lady Death and War Angel.Elena Casagrande, a graduate of the International School of Comics in Rome, began her career as artist David Messina’s assistant, kicking off a long relationship with IDW Publishing that has seen her work on such series as Star Trek, The Ghost Whisperer, Angel, Infestation and True Blood. Casagrande’s Marvel credits include Marvel Heartbreakers, Spitfire, Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk.Well regarded as a modern master of the macabre, artist Kyle Hotz is best known for his uniquely creepy art style. Hotz first gained notice during the 1990s with extensive credentials on a long list of horror comics. Since then, he has gone on to illustrate Incredible Hulk, Ghost Rider and Venom for Marvel Comics, as well as The Hood in collaboration with writer Brian K. Vaughan. Hotz thrilled fans of the “living dead” genre with Zombie, a four-part limited series modernizing the classic ’70s-era Marvel horror character, and its sequel, The Zombie: Simon Garth.Artist Pasqual Ferry became one of the most vital creators of Marvel’s Ultimate line. In writer Orson Scott Card’s Ultimate Iron Man II, Ferry brought out the bleeding-edge dynamism of Iron Man’s armor. He was also writer Mike Carey’s art partner on Ultimate Fantastic Four. His other work includes Ultimate X-Men/Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate Fantastic Four/Ultimate X-Men. Ferry helped writer Chip Zdarsky answer the question “What if Spider-Man had kept his symbiotic black costume?” in Spider-Man: Spider's Shadow.Minkyu Jung won legions of fans with he lengthy run on Magnificent Ms. Marvel, an assignment he followed with the one-shot Spider-Man: Curse of the Man-Thing and Star Wars: Doctor Aphra. At DC Comics, Jung has worked on titles including Nightwing, Titans and Batgirl.
