Uncanny X-Men #1 Review From the ashes a new beginning!

So this is going to be slightly shocking I have never read anything with Uncanny in the title. I have not looked into the story lines at all, I guess with everything going on these were always series I treated as a maybe I will read it one day. Today is that day. I also loved the cover because I see Gambits cards glowing with power.

What is the plot and premise?

We start with Xaviers beautiful school being ransacked and turned into a prison. Maximum security as prisoner number 1 arrives.

Jump forward and we are in Mexico with problems starting to form. Gambit wrestles a favour from a huge beast and off Rogue, Gambit and Wolverine head into the adventure.

Next stop is a small side story where we see some bad guys doing bad things, before we visit a hospital on a make a wish trip. The plot develops from here and we find Rogue, Wolverine and Gambit debating if the X-men still exist and how they should, if they should rebuild them from the ashes. No Scott, No Charles, No Kitty.

Just when it seems like they will decide not to do anything......

How are the characters developed?

This is all about character development for Rogue, resetting her expectations and setting up a growth Arc. Gambit and Wolverine play as a sounding board for Rogue to work through her dilema.

What is the quality of the artwork?

Like all top tier titles the artwork is spot on. The only standout bad part was the hospital visit felt a little more Eastern than Western in its art style.

How is the writing and dialogue?

There is a lot of dialogue and this is really important to drive the growth of Rogue, the action sequences are short and snappy and other than finding your rhythm while jumping between Nightcrawler and Gambit it is well written.

What is your overall impression and recommendation?

A great start to rebuilding. I am giving this a good read rating. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.

I love reading all the little addons that come in some comics, this has some great pieces about how the writing/artistic team first encountered X-men and it adds a nice community aspect to the read. How did you first encounter the X-men. For me it was my friend James introducing me to the characters and his passion for them pulled me into the X-men story.
